Are you taking the first steps in deciding whether home education is right for your child? At Impaq, we understand that home education is a commitment of time, patience and energy, but we also know that it can be an extremely rewarding experience. As such we have outlined a few points to assist you in making the best decision for your child.
Know your rights
Home education is a legally recognised alternative to formal education in South Africa. It was legalised in 1996 and Section 51 of the South African Schools Act states that parents have the option to register their child with the Head of Department of a Provincial Education Department should they wish to educate their child at home. Read Impaq’s Legal Considerations
page for a summary of the legal aspects surrounding home education.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the decisions you have to make but don’t panic. Impaq provides everything you need to make home education a success. Our offering is based on a distance-learning model where the learner applies self-learning; they learn at their own pace and in a way that works best for them.
Impaq provides CAPS-aligned lesson material, detailed facilitator guides, memorandums to mark tests and examinations*, access to subject matter experts, and a Guided Learning platform to help guide your child on his/her learning journey. You can rest assured that more than 16 years’ experience in the market counts for something! Go to Impaq’s Testimonials
page to read our success stories.
Make use of valuable resources
No two families home educate the same way, so seeking out several points of view will help you understand what your options are and what resonates with your child’s learning style. Read Impaq’s blog
for valuable insights from our subject matter experts. Here you can find more information about how to choose a home-education curriculum provider
and whether home education is a possible solution for your family.
Another valuable resource you, as a home education parent, can rely on is Impaq’s national network of tutors. Learn how they can support you and your role on our tutor page.
Connect with other home education families
Once you are registered and have a basic understanding of home education and how the law applies to it, you’ll want to gain access to other home education parents. There are lots of home education support groups to keep you motivated and involved.
Impaq has its own online educational support groups in certain subjects that have proven to be an immense resource to parents and learners. Links to these groups are sent to parents upon registration.
When your family is ready to start home education, just go to our online shop
to register. You will receive regular updates on the registration process. Please forward your proof of payment to firstname.lastname@example.org
and keep in mind that after your payment has been allocated, the book delivery (depending on your chosen package) will take approximately five business days.
*Only applicable to Grade R – 9. Learners have access to marking services in the FET Phase.
