Device and Software Requirements

  • We recommend a laptop or PC with enough RAM to handle larger mathematical equations, videos, and a large number of images.
  •  A cellphone and/or a tablet, such as an iPad, is not recommended for using the Optimi Learning Portal (OLP) or the Impaq Online School, as their functionality will be limited.     
  • All equipment and software are for the client’s own account (unless explicitly stated otherwise).
  • Please take note of the additional specifications required for the Grade 10 to 12 subjects IT and CAT, the minimum specifications when opting for ebooks, and the hardware, software, and internet requirements for the Impaq Online School.
  • Stable internet access is required as specified.

Impaq Online School

  • Stable internet access, with backup during load shedding, is required.
  • The equipment must be purchased at the client’s own cost and is not provided or supported by the Impaq Online School.
  • If you choose Information Technology (IT) or Computer Applications Technology (CAT) as a subject in Grades 10, 11, or 12, please refer to the additional specifications.

HARDWARE

  • You will require a PC or laptop with a webcam and microphone, as learners will interact face-to-face in the Impaq Online School. A cellphone and/or a tablet limits functionality and will therefore not be suitable for the online school.  
  • CPU: 12th Gen (generation) or higher, multi-core and fast clock speed (at least 1.8 GHz or faster). Quad-core or better recommended.  
  • 8GB of RAM or more.    
  • 32 GB of available disk space (not total disk space).
  • USB port.
  • Keyboard and mouse.
  • A screen/monitor with a 1080p vertical resolution is recommended.
  • A capable video card that runs at 1440×900 is recommended.
  • A UPS is recommended to account for power interruptions, as classes are not recorded, and tests and examinations may not be missed due to any power interruption, including but not limited to load shedding.

SOFTWARE

  • Windows 11 or 10.
  • Security software (antivirus)

*Impaq supplies each learner with a Microsoft Office 365 academic student licence as part of the package price.

  • This licence will give registered learners access to the online versions of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access MS Outlook, MS Teams, and MS PowerPoint.   
  • Account setup may take up to three business days from the date of registration.  


Ebooks

  • If you have opted for electronic books (ebooks) as part of your package, you will be able to access them via Optimi’s e-reader app.
  • Ebooks are only made available via the Optimi app and are not printable.
  • For certain subjects, materials are not available in an electronic format. These will be made available in hard copy.
  • Ensure that the device on which you will be accessing the ebooks meets or exceeds the minimum specifications provided below.
  • Ebooks are non-refundable. Ebooks cannot be transferred and are assigned to one learner/guardian only upon registration.
  • You will need a stable internet connection.
  • You will not be able to use your ebooks on a cell phone. 
  • Ebooks are made available only for the academic year in which they are purchased and will be available within two (2) business days from registration (the first date being 1 December). If you have any questions, please send an email to info@impaq.cdns.co.za.  

Any one of the following devices with relevant specifications is recommended for ebooks to function optimally:

Android & ChromeOS

  • Operating system: Android version 8 or higher (version 10+ recommended)
  • Storage: 32 GB internal storage space (minimum), 64GB (recommended)

  • Tier one Android devices (e.g., Samsung, Xiaomi, Nokia, Sony, LG)

iOS for iPhone & iPad

  • Operating system: iOS 13 or higher (iOS 16+ recommended)
  • Storage: Minimum 32 GB internal storage space (64GB recommended)

  • iPhone 6 or newer, iPad Mini 4 or newer, iPad Air 2, iPad 6th generation or newer, iPad Pro 3rd generation or newer

Windows

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (minimum) or Windows 11 (recommended)
  • CPU: Dual-core 1.6 GHz (minimum), Intel Core i5 (10th Gen) or an equivalent AMD Ryzen 5 (3000 series or newer) (recommended)
  • Storage: 10 GB free (minimum), 20GB+ free (recommended)
  • RAM: 4GB (minimum), 8GB (recommended)
